Family Roadtrip: La Union Botanical and Zoological Garden

Wanting to maximize an elusive long weekend and hotel late check-in time are just no match. We reached San Fernando, La Union at 9AM and check-in time at our reserved hotel room in Plaza de Castiel is not until 2PM. We had to kill time so after some google searches, we decided to do a sidetrip to La Union Botanical Garden. Our family roadtrip already led us to La Union a couple of times in the past so we were running out of places to visit. We drove to La Union Botanical and Zoological Garden, without any expectations. We enjoyed the place so much and if that’s because we were just a jolly family that day or because the botanical and zoological garden was a pleasant surprise, I really don’t know.

Scenery outside of the garden, a few hundred meters away from the entrance.

There are not a lot of tourists in La Union Botanical and Zoological Garden. It’s also far from the highway and the concrete road that leads to it is steep and narrow. But the road some hundred meters away from the garden is curated with flowering trees like these that we had to make a stop and smell  take photos of the flowers.

There are few animals but we enjoyed the zoological garden. I was surprised to find out, too, that it was my brothers’ first time to see actual eagles in person!

No stores inside. There are picnic tables which can be used for free but we decided to eat at the parking lot so as not to bring all the food and mess kits inside the garden which was also a few hundred meters away.
